Today I am proud to announce The Transgender Resource Center of Long Island (TRCLI).

Building a Place Where We Can All Come Together

Today I am proud to announce The Transgender Resource Center of Long Island (TRCLI). We are a 501c3 non-profit organization and our goal is to create a resource center that will serve the transgender and gender non-conforming community along with their families and partners in both Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Some of the programs we intend to create include support groups, assistance with updating vital records associated with name and gender marker changes, providing access to friendly doctors and healthcare, housing assistance, workshops and educational events, inclusivity training, guest speakers, community building events, and much more to come. These programs will be available to people of all ages.

To help shape the programs that we offer, we are asking you to take our needs survey. It takes only a few minutes to complete, and no personal data is collected. We ask only for an email address and a zip code. The email address is for verification purposes only, and you will not be added to our mailing list by taking the survey. The purpose of the zip code is to help us determine the best location for our center. The rest of the questions will not only help us shape the resource center with your input, but it will also provide us with vital data needed to help with our fundraising efforts. I want to personally thank you in advance if you choose to take the survey.

Another goal of our center will be not only to create our own events, but also to serve as a one-stop hub by promoting the activities and events for any person or group who is doing work to elevate our community. TRCLI will serve not as an alternative to what is already available, but to enhance and assist. We have already begun the process of reaching out to other LGBT+ organizations that are doing great work on Long Island by offering to our support and assistance with any programs or events they have that would be of benefit to our community.

I feel it is important that we dream big and set far-reaching goals. Though we have many challenges ahead of us as a community, I believe that there is nothing we cannot achieve if we all work together. It is my hope that this center will be something that you see as yours and one that you helped to create.

Our first fundraising campaign is titled, “Building a Place Where We Can All Come Together”. I ask you to join us and help us, as there are many ways in which you can do so. Of course, we always appreciate a donation. Every dollar helps us get closer to reaching our goal. I am looking forward to getting to know each and every one of you as we move forward in this journey together. If we reach our goals, we hope to open our new center during the 2017 calendar year. In the meantime, we will be starting some of our programs as early as the beginning of January at alternate locations until our center is built. On behalf of Jude, Ursula and myself, I would like to welcome you all to The Transgender Resource Center of Long Island.

Sincerely yours,
